Chronic Kidney Disease in Older Adults with Cardiovascular Disease
US NHANES 2011-2012
12.1 million US adults age 60 or more with cardiovascular disease (23% of 53.8 million US adults age 60+)
Among adults age 60 or more with cardiovascular disease compared to the general population age 60 or more
Cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease often co-exist in older adults

Chronic Kidney Disease in Older Adults with Cardiovascular Disease
US NHANES 2011-2012
12.1 million US adults age 60 or more with cardiovascular disease (23% of 53.8 million US adults age 60+)
- Individuals with cardiovascular disease are older on average (72.5 vs. 69.6 years)
- Risk for cardiovascular disease increases as renal function (eGFR) declines and urine albumin level (UACR) increases
Among adults age 60 or more with cardiovascular disease compared to the general population age 60 or more
- Risk for reduced renal function (eGFR<60 ml/min/1.73m2) is almost twice as high (42.4% vs. 23.2%)
- Risk for macroalbuminuria (UACR>300 mg/g) is more than doubled (6.7% vs. 2.6%)
- Risk for reduced renal function persists after adjustment for age and albuminuria
Cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease often co-exist in older adults
